World Cup 2010

On the 15th of May, 2004 FIFA announced that the World Cup 2010 tournament will be hosted by South Africa. The main opponents of South Africa's bid were Morocco and Egypt. South Africa received 14 votes, Morocco 10 and Egypt received none.

"I am delighted that an African association has earned the right to host the FIFA World Cup," Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA said on the day of voting. "South Africans should treat this decision with humility and without arrogance because we are, after all, equal," Nelson Mandela said, without being able to hide his tears from the cameras.
