West Ham United have completed a loan deal for Deportivo La Coruna defender Lionel Scaloni, with a last minute signing beating the transfer deadline in his move to the English Premiership club.
The 27-year-old Argentinian defender underwent a medical yesterday evening, and has joined the Hammers on loan for the rest of the season.
The Deportivo skipper has been in and out of the first team at the Riazor Stadium this season, having seemingly falling out of favour with new Deportivo manager Joaquin Caparros, and only having made seven league starts, and also appearing eight times as a substitute for Deportivo in the Primera Liga.
After eight years with the Spanish club, Scaloni's agent and father, Angel Scaloni, claims Scaloni is ready for a new challenge, if only on a short-term basis.
Scaloni's father said of his time at Deportivo: “He was very happy and was well treated, but his face didn't fit with Caparros. Everything is arranged with West Ham.”
“He will be loaned without the option to buy, unless they change the conditions,'” added Scaloni's father.
