Wayne Rooney To Miss England’s Euro 2008 Qualifiers After Breaking Foot In Man United’s Premiership Opener Against Reading
Wayne Rooney will miss England’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers in September and October after Manchester United confirmed that their striker will be out for two months due to a fractured foot.
Steve McClaren’s side face Israel and Russia at home on September 8 and 12 respectively. And in October, the Three Lions meet Estonia at home on 13th and Russia away on 17th.
The 21-year-old picked up a hairline fracture of his left foot in the Premiership clash with Reading at Old Trafford on Sunday, after an accidental clash with defender Michael Duberry towards the end of first half.
Rooney limped off immediately after the tackle, indicating he was in immense pain but after some treatment on the field, he continued for the remaining period until the half time. However, he did not turn up for the second half and was sent for a scan.
Rooney, who had suffered broken metatarsals twice in his career – in 2004 and 2006 – will also be out of United’s Premiership matches against Portsmouth, Manchester City, Tottenham, Sunderland, Everton, Chelsea and Birmingham, during these two months.
