United States and Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan has been ruled out of next week's World Cup warm-up friendly with Germany in Dortmund after failing to recover from a right calf strain.

His club said in a statement that Donovan would be sidelined for two to three weeks after suffering the injury on March 8 in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match.

Team U.S.A coach Bruce Arena said he would not be looking for a replacement for Donovan for his 18-man squad that will travel to Germany for Wednesday's game with the World Cup hosts.

Donovan, who has 25 goals in 77 appearances for the U.S., was expected to cover for Team USA captain, Manchester City's Claudio Reyna, who is not available due to club commitments.
