US Defender Frankie Hejduk Joins Landon Donovan In Missing Germany Match - Neuville Replaces Hanke For Germany

The U.S. team coach Bruce Arena has had more bad news on the injury front as Columbus Crew defender Frankie Hejduk has joined Landon Donovan in being ruled out of Wednesday's friendly against Germany.

Hejduk will miss the friendly in Dortmund after sustaining a strained hamstring.

The news follows the departure of Landon Donovan from the squad due to a calf injury. Neither player has been replaced, meaning U.S. Manager Bruce Arena will have just 17 players available for selection for the game.

Germany boss Jürgen Klinsmann has some injuries of his own to deal with prior to the friendly, but has also learnt that Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Deisler, a likely starter in the World Cup, has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will be sidelined for at least six months.

The players also pulling-out from the Germany squad for the World Cup warm-up are Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings and striker Michael Hanke, who suffered a bruised hip in VfL Wolfsburg's 1-0 home defeat by Hamburg.

Klinsmann has recalled veteran striker Oliver Neuville from Borussia Moenchengladbach to take Hanke’s place in the squad.
