The news dealt a serious blow to the Uruguay manager Jorge Fossati for the two world cup playoff matches against Australia.

The first match is being played in Montevideo on the 12th of November while the other leg is played in Sydney on the 16th of November. Premiera Liga club Villarreal also said that Furlan will travel to Uruguay to see if there is any chance of playing. Viera, who also plays for Villarreal injured his left collarbone on Sunday.
