Update: Palace Accept £8.5m Bid From Bolton For Johnson - Striker Has Everton InterestSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Fri, 26/05/2006 - 06:29.
Crystal Palace have accepted a bid of £8.5 million for England and Eagles striker Andrew Johnson from Bolton Wanderers, equalling the bid from Wigan, and with Everton showing interest. Bolton Wanderers have had their bid for the talented 25-year-old striker accepted after a bid of the same amount was tendered for Johnson by Wigan Athletic on Wednesday. Palace chairman Simon Jordan had provisionally accepted the bid from Wigan, but Johnson wanted some time to be able to decide on where he wanted to move to, and on Thursday an equal offer came in from Bolton manager Sam Allardyce. It has now been confirmed that the England standby striker has opted for a move to the North-West, but whether to the Reebok stadium to join Sam Allardyce's team rather than to join the Latics is now still open to question. A Palace spokesman said: “Crystal Palace have accepted another bid for Andrew Johnson, after Bolton Wanderers offered £500,000 more for the player on Thursday. “The offer from Sam Allardyce’s side matches the one made on Wednesday by Wigan Athletic, and therefore the 25-year-old now has permission to speak to both Lancashire clubs.” Jordan revealed yesterday that Everton were also showing interest in the player but had not matched his valuation, while he also believes Portsmouth are keen. in favorites | email this page
