Update: Paolo Wanchope scores his own World Cup brace with the Costa Rican's pulling back a goal in the 73rd minute.

Germany's Philip Lahm scored the opening goal in the World Cup Finals 2006, with a strike in the 6th minute to give the hosts, Germany a 1-0 lead against Costa Rica.

But, just 6 minutes later former Manchester City striker Paolo Wanchope equalised after breaking the German offside trap and shooting through the legs of Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

Germany came straight back into the game with a beautifully crafted strike from the Germans, with Werder Bremen's Miroslav Klose striking from close range in the 17th minute.

Even with the German pressure the Costa Rican's held out to half-time with the score 2-1.

Germany extended their lead in the 61st minute, with Klose scoring his second goal, off a rebound from the goalkeeper.

But this seemed to galvanise the Costa Rican's and their veteran striker Paolo Wanchope scored his second after breaking the German off-side trap for the second time to bring the underdogs back into the game.
