Ukraine have beaten the 10-men of Tunisia 1-0 in their last match in World Cup Group H at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, which sees Ukraine progress to the last sixteen in second place in Group H.

A penalty from Chelsea’s Andrei Shevchenko in the 60th minute was enough to see Ukraine progress against a ten-man Tunisia, with Zied Jaziri being sent-off in injury-time in the first-half.

The game started off fairly slowly, with Ukraine taking control of the match from early on, Kalinichenko was excellent again on the wing, and Voronin, on the other wing, had an great break on goal, finishing with him blasting a shot straight at Boumnijel in the Tunisian goal.

Hamed Namouchi had a free-kick go close in the 19th minute, but the pressure was all from Ukraine as the half progressed, with shots from Shevchenko, Anatolly Tymoshuk and Serhiy Rebrov.

Adel Chedli had a shot ten minutes before half-time, but that was all that Tunisia threatened with.

Oleg Shelayev had a late shot that caused Boumnijel to fumble in front of goal, but the very well drilled Tunisian defence cleared the danger.

Ukraine went into half-time level with Tunisia, who were defending excellently, but will be rueing their missed chances after they dominated the half.

The second-half saw very little action from either side, with Tunisia having the slight advantage in attack in the beginning, with shots from a free-kick from Anis Ayari and Karim Haggui, but never threatening .

Ukraine were awarded a penalty when Shevchenko was adjudged to have been brought-down in the 70th minute and the captain despatched it perfectly to take the lead.

Chedli came off for the half-fit Dos Santos with ten minutes to go to try and pull something back for the Carthage Eagles, but it was too little, too late, even though they had a few late attempts.

Voronin made a great run at goal in the dying minutes, but was denied by some great goalkeeping from Boumnijel, who came out of his goal to deny the onrushing Ukrainian.

The game finished 2-0 to Ukraine, who progress to the knockout stages in second-place in the group, and face the winner of Group G, to be decided later tonight.
