Uganda Beats Ecuador To Win Third Place Spot in LG-Cup Tournament in Cairo
Uganda's Geoffrey Massa and Martin Mwanga both scored six minutes apart early in the second half and the 'Cranes' rallied to beat World Cup Qualified Ecuador 2-1 at the LG Cup in Cairo on Thursday, exceeding expectations.
Ecuador managed its second defeat in the tournament, after a disappointing appearance. Ecuador's Ivan Kaviedes managed to open the score early in the first half, but this was not enough to win the game for the Latin Americans.
Both Geoffrey Massa and Martin Mwanda scored in the second half with headers after a corner was taken, in the 48th and the 54th minute respectively. Steven Nsereko and Morley Byekwaso were the players who took the corners for Uganda.
Uganda played cleverly in the midfield, with continuous ball circulation between its midfielders and defenders. It was their first game against a South American team in more than a decade.
