At half-time, the United States are level 1-1 with Paraguay in their second Group C Copa América 2007 match in Barinas on Monday.

In a high-tempo first-half, both teams were attacking freely, with chances on both sides.

The USA should have taken the lead after 8 minutes when Sacha Kljestan missed a free header, after ghosting past his defender superbly.

Sloppy defending from the U.S. allowed Jonathan Santana a shot at goal, which was saved well by Keller.

In the 20th minute Paraguay’s Dario Verón had a header hit the US post, with Roque Santa Cruz heading wide minutes later.

NEC Nijmegen midfielder Edgar Barreto opened the scoring at the half-hour mark, prodding home from close-range after being sent clear with a through ball from Roque Santa Cruz.

Justo Villar made a great save to deny Bornstein’s drive at goal, after a cutback from Eddie Johnson as the U.S came back into the game.

Houston Dynamo striker Ricardo Clark equalised with a terrific shot from an equally assured layback from Twellman.

The half finished level at 1-1, with the young U.S. team doing well to come back from a goal down and shading possession.
