Turkey vs Greece Aftermatch ReportSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Sun, 05/06/2005 - 04:17.
This long awaited match, from the fans point of view that is, finally came to a goaless draw. Despite apparent media satisfaction with both teams' games, there was no great football played from either side. The Turks continued the incitement against the Greeks and the game did not satisfy those who love football. The Turkish team did not resemble the spectacular 2002 Korea/Japan team and only a few times found the way to the Greek goalkeeper. However the Turks were pressing hard in the first and last 20 minutes of the game but only managed a few good chances for scoring. Recber Rustu did some spectacular saves and was one of the best Turkish players together with Belozoglu Emre, who had to be substituted 20 minutes before full time. Tuncay Sanli lost two good chances, one with a shot going wide and another header going over the top goalpost. The Greek side was not able to successfully pass the ball to Haristeas and Giannakopoulos. Those who have watched closely the Greek team in the past few years find it's game to be very predictable. However those who are satisfied with the end result did not complain about the team€™s performance. Kostas Katsouranis was the the key player, and perhaps the man of the match with Giannis Goumas and Michalis Kapsis forming a great defence trio, which once again prepared for defence. Zissis Vryzas made one of his best appearances with the Greek national team. Aggelos Basinas, being very tired having played a whole season non stop since the European Cup win in Portugal. Aggelos Haristeas did not meet up to expectation and was not seen many times with the ball and seemed very inexperienced in his game. The Greek team seems to be lagging quality midfielders. Opinion The Greek side was disappointing and with it€™s recklessness it enabled Turkey to gain possession of the ball and bringing it on the outskirts of Antonis Nikopolidis area. The Greek team got a good result, but will need different solutions in order to make a respectful appearance in Germany€™s world cup. The team is very predictable with it€™s strategy and lagging some fresh talent. in favorites | email this page
