Trinidad And Tobago's 'Soca Warriors' Draw 1-1 With Bahrain In 1st Leg of World Cup Playoff's

Trinidad and Tobago will have a lot of work to do after only managing a 1 – 1 draw against Bahrain in the first-leg of their World Cup playoff’s in the Port of Spain. Fancied by many this time round to reach their first ever World cup finals, they would have hoped to take a lead into the second leg in Bahrain.

With ex Premiership and T&T National hero Dwight Yorke still playing up front at the age of 36, it was down in the end to a young player from English football’s, league 1, the 3rd tier of English football, to get the goal that gives T & T hope for the second leg.

Port Vale’s Chris Birchall who plays for Trinidad and Tobago by virtue of the fact that his mother was born on the islands, scored a spectacular equalizer in response to Husein Salmon’s 72 minute strike for Bahrain.

Incredibly Dwight Yorke, along with Shaka Hislop, were involved in the Squad the last time T & T's 'Soca Warriors' got so close to a World Cup back in 1989. They fell short of realizing theirs and their nations dreams, when they lost to the USA in the final group game that could have sent T&T through. It would certainly cap a wonderful career for Dwight Yorke if he could yet fire the 'Warriors' to the World Cup finals.

Trinidad and Tobago will be hoping that their experienced stars can guide the team to their first appearance in a World Cup, but underdogs Bahrain will now also fancy that they could cause an upset and qualify for Germany, after a great result away from home.
