Trinidad And Tobago "Warriors" Squad Named For CONCACAF Zone Matches Against Panama And Mexico

The Trinidad and Tobago squad for their final two CONCACAF World Cup qualifying games against Panama and Mexico has been named by T & T Head Coach Leo Beenhakker. He has selected a squad of a total of 21 players for the 'Warriors' all-important 2006 World Cup qualifying matches taking place on the 8th and 12th of October.

There are no major changes from the Trinidad and Tobago squad which defeated Guatemala 3-2 recently, and then lost to Costa Rica 2-0, except for the return of Coventry City FC's goalkeeper Clayton Ince as a third choice keeper, along with first-choice Kelvin Jack and Shaka Hislop.

Southampton FC's striker Kenwyne Jones is also making a comeback to the squad after being out injured, with former Manchester Utd, and current Sydney FC striker Dwight Yorke keeping the captain's armband, and Scottish Premiership team Falkirk's midfielder Russell Latapy also in the line-up. he is widely expected to make his third straight appearance for the T&T "Warriors" after coming out of retirement for the victory over the Guatemalans on September the 3rd.

With the fate of World Cup play-off qualification relying on other results, coach Beenhakker knows that Trinidad and Tobago's fate depends not only on what happens on October 8 against Panama, and four days later against Mexico, but on Guatemala's results.

Wins in the two matches will take the Warriors to 13 points, while Guatemala (currently on eight points) face both Mexico and Costa Rica in their closing games.

"The main part is for the players to play with the same attitude they have when they play at home, for instance in the Guatemala and Panama games we won before. We have to go for the win from the first moment, from when we are on the plane to when we are back on the bus after the match in Panama," Beenhakker told the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation, (T&TFF) yesterday.

"We know how it works and we must all realise that this is the final countdown and everyone has to do everything to make it happen," he added.
