Trinidad and Tobago & Gillingham Defender Brent Sancho Moves To Swansea On Loan To Help Obtain World Cup Spot For Warriors

Trinidad and Tobago and Gillingham centre-back Brent Sancho has joined League One promotion contenders Swansea City on loan until the end of the season in the hope of getting chosen by T&T Warrior's boss Leo Beenhakker for the World Cup Finals.

It concludes a sorry episode that has seen Sancho frozen out of the first team at Gillingham, despite many Gills fans believing he should be in the starting line-up for the team.

Sancho was left out of Leo Beenhakker's Trinidad & Tobago squad for the recent friendly match with Iceland at Loftus Road, and after talking to Beenhakker, Sancho expressed his wish to the Gillingham board for a loan move in order to give him the best chance of playing for T&T in the World Cup in Germany.

Sancho fell out with club officials after opting to travel with the Trinidad & Tobago squad, refuting the club's claims that he was unfit.

He was subsequently frozen out of the squad upon his return, and it was only after a meeting was called between Sancho, the Gills chairman Paul Scally and manager Ronnie Jepson that the former Dundee defender was brought back into the fold.

Sancho remains a Gillingham player, as he is only partway through a two-year contract.

If he manages to break back into the T&T squad and impress others in the global ‘shop window’ of the World Cup, a big money move could be on the cards - with both Brent Sancho and Gillingham benefiting from the move.

Trinidad and Tobago have been drawn in Group B in the World Cup Finals and will face England, Sweden and Paraguay.
