Toulouse Midfielder Nabil Taider Refused Tunisia Place By FIFA - Lemerre Hoping For Blatter To Reverse Decision

The Tunisian Football Federation have said it is hoping FIFA President Sepp Blatter would reverse an earlier FIFA decision to deny Toulouse midfielder Nabil Taider the chance to play for the Carthage Eagles at the World Cup Finals in Germany.

22-year-old Taider was born in Lavaur, France and has played for Toulouse all of his career. He has earned caps for France at junior level, but could also qualify for Tunisian citizenship because of his parents.

FIFA rules stipulate that a player can play for one international team at youth level, and another at senior (over 21) level, provided he makes the switch before his 21st birthday.

Tunisia head coach Roger Lemerre would love to have Taider as an addition to the Carthage Eagles squad for the Finals, but Taider’s application was turned down by FIFA on the grounds his application to change nationality was made after his 21st birthday.

The chances of FIFA allowing a change is made even more unlikely by the fact that Taider will be 23-years-old by the time the World Cup Finals kick-off on June 9.
