Tottenham Hotspur & England's Ledley King Injured In Pre-Season Missing England's Friendly V Greece & EURO 2008 Qualifiers

Tottenham Hotspur captain and England defender Ledley King is set to miss the start of the Premiership season, possibly missing up to eight weeks after picking up a knee injury in pre-season training.

A scan on the injured knee has revealed that the 25-year-old Spurs defender will be out of action until the middle of September at the earliest.

“Ledley is out with suspected cartilage problems and he could be out for six to eight weeks,” Spurs manager Martin Jol told the Tottenham website.

King, who last played for Tottenham in their Premiership match against Everton on 15 April, had recently recovered from the broken foot that forced him out of England's World Cup Finals squad for Germany 2006, and was coming back to full-fitness before this latest injury set-back.

He is also likely to miss England’s first two EURO 2008 qualifying matches, against Andorra on September 2 and FYR Macedonia on September 6, with King also be missing for new Three Lions coach Steve McClaren's first game in charge of the national squad against European champions Greece at Old Trafford on August 16.
