Paraguay and Ecuador have both sealed their places in the World Cup Finals in Germany next year, to join Argentina and Brazil as qualifiers from the South America Zone. Ecuador managed to draw with Uruguay 0-0, and Paraguay beat Venezuela 1-0 away for both teams to seal their place in the finals.

The other match played today in the South America Zone Group stage saw Colombia draw at home with Chile 1-1, which through the result, consigns Venezuela to an early exit from any further chance of World Cup qualification.

In the final round of South American qualifying, Uruguay, Chile and Colombia will all be looking to reach the fifth-spot in the group, and so attain a play-off place with Oceania Zone qualifiers Australia for a place in the finals.

Paraguay now have 28 points in the group, having leap-frogged former 3rd placed Ecuador, who are now assured of the fourth-spot after their draw today, on 27 points. They now join Brazil and Argentina in the finals.

Uruguay are currently in fifth-spot on 22 points, one point ahead of fellow fifth place chasers Colombia and Chile.

Chile meet Ecuador on Tuesday in the final games of qualification, with Paraguay and Bolivia coming head-to-head, and Uruguay hosting table-toppers Argentina in the relevant matches for that vital fifth place, and a play-off with Australia.
