T & T's Captain Dwight Yorke Angered By U.S Coach Bruce Arena's Comments About The Warriors & Socceroos

U.S coach Bruce Arena has angered Trinidad and Tobago's captain Dwight Yorke by the comments made by United States soccer coach, who stated that both Trinidad and Tobago and Australia would most likely be the “weak” links in the World Cup in Germany next summer.

During an interview with the U.S magazine Sports Illustrated, Arena said that playing Leo Beenhakker’s Trinidad and Tobago, and Guus Hiddink’s Australia would be the easy games in next Summer’s tournament.

"The last time around, the easy games were China and Saudi Arabia," the vociferous US coach said. "This time around you'd probably say Australia and Trinidad and Tobago are the weak ones."

However, Yorke, a veteran striker who played for Manchester United, and who currently plays in Australia for the A League club Sydney FC, dismissed the comments made by United States football coach Arena, giving his backing to both the Warriors, and the Socceroos.

"The manager of the American team is entitled to his opinion," Yorke said. "Hopefully, when he comes up against one of us we can shove the words right back in his face.”

The two teams are no strangers, having faced each other recently in the CONCACAF Zone qualifying stages for the World Cup finals.

Yorke continued, “America were in our group. They know they were very fortunate to beat us. They are not a brilliant team like they are making out to be we've been playing them for years, they are not that special.”

Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the finals after defeating Bahrain in the home and away Asian/CONCACAF playoffs, and became only the second English-speaking Caribbean nation to qualify for the World Cup finals, following Jamaica's qualification for the World Cup France 1998.
