Sweden Has Great Chance Of Success With Players Like Ljungberg, Larsson & Ibrahimovic Says Former Coach Svensson

Tommy Svensson, who coached Sweden to third place in the 1994 World Cup Final in the United States, believes that Sweden can emulate their success of USA ‘94 in this year's Finals in Germany.

"If everyone is on top they sure can get as good as we were,” Svensson told the Swedish news agency TT on Friday.

“There are some real world class players in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrik Larsson and Fredrik Ljungberg, it's just a matter of everyone being on top and in shape at the same time.”

Svensson's World Cup side stunned Bulgaria 4-0 in the third-place play-off match, having lost the semi-final to Brazil, who went on to lift the trophy.

Svensson quit from the post as head coach in 1997 after Sweden failed to qualify for the World Cup Finals in France the following year.

The only players left in the squad from the one that had so much success in USA ’94 are Barcelona’s Henrik Larsson and central defender Teddy Lucic, with both hoping to feature in Germany.

Sweden have been drawn alongside England, Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago in Group B in the finals which begin on June 9.
