Sweden Coach Lars Lagerback Troubled Over Stade Rennais' Andreas Isaksson Injury

Submitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Thu, 08/06/2006 - 14:20.

Lagerback's plans for Sweden's opening World Cup 2006 match against Trinidad & Tobago suffered a major blow after Stade Rennais' Andreas Isaksson, the first-choice keeper for the Swedish team was ruled out due to injury.

It only took a strong shot by midfielder Kim Kallstrom, which landed on Isaksson's face, for Sweden's goalkeeper to get injured, as he suffered concussion as he hit the ground with his head.

A spokesman from the Swedish team said that it would take at least 3-5 days until he fully recovers, which means he will loose Sweden's opening match against Trinidad & Tobago.

Rami Shaaban and John Alvbage, who are the second and third choice goalkeepers, have very few appearances with the Swedish national football team, which adds a major headache to the Coach.
