England and Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole has made a successful return from his latest injury as he came through 90 minutes for Arsenal Reserves on Wednesday.

The England defender, who has made just one brief appearance for the Gunners in the last six months due to foot and ankle problems, completed the behind-closed-doors match against Coventry.

The news is a big boost for the Premiership side as they push for Champions League glory and the vital fourth-place in the Premiership.

But it is also great news for England coach Sven Goran Eriksson ahead of the World Cup.

Cole has not played for the Three Lions since September's clash against Northern Ireland, but should now be back in action before Sven names his squad for the big tournament in Germany this summer.

Interestingly, Cole played 45 minutes at left midfield in front of Gael Clichy on Wednesday, but he will be a big asset in his normal left-back role for the international side.

The 25-year-old could play a maximum of five games for Arsenal before the end of the season, although he missed this weekend's massive north London derby against Tottenham.

England also have two friendly games before the World Cup kicks-off for Cole to prove he is back to his very best.
