Sven-Goran Eriksson Names England Squad To Face Argentina In International Friendly GameSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Sun, 06/11/2005 - 23:46.
England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has announced his squad to face Argentina in a game which will strangely enough be played in Geneva, Switzerland. The Swede coach did not go ahead with his expected call-up of Jonathan Woodgate, as the later suffered an injury again on today's Real Madrid game against Real Zaragoza. Woodgate was substituted just 23 minutes into the game possibly due to a hamstring injury, which is very unfortunate after his 17 month absence from action. Chelsea's Wayne Bridge call-up came as a surprise, he has only played for 60 minutes this season after an 8-month injury absense. "Wayne Bridge played in the Carling Cup for Chelsea so I want to see him. It is important for him to come back into international football because he is the second best left-back in the country behind Ashley Cole" Eriksson told reporters. England Squad: Goalkeepers: Robinson (Tottenham), Green (Norwich), James (Man City) Defenders: Neville (Everton), Young (Charlton), Bridge (Chelsea), Konchesky (West Ham), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Campbell (Arsenal), King (Tottenham) Midfielders Beckham (Real Madrid), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), J Cole (Chelsea), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Jenas (Tottenham), Smith (Man Utd), Carrick (Tottenham) Strikers: Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Man Utd), Defoe (Tottenham), Crouch (Liverpool) in favorites | email this page
