After denying reports of being linked with both West Ham United and Newcastle United of the English Premier League, former England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has reportedly had discussions with officials from the Nigeria Football Association, with a view to taking over as Nigeria's national team coach.

Tord Grip, assistant to the Swede during his time with England's Three Lions, said Eriksson had talks with the NFA 10 days ago.

"I don't know exactly what those discussions were about. I assume they were about the Nigerian national team," Grip told Swedish Radio.

Eriksson has linked with both West Ham and Newcastle United, but has denied both reports.

Meanwhile, there has also been speculation of a return to Portuguese side Benfica, and a return to Serie A to join Italian giants Inter Milan.

After years (dacades?) in the football wilderness and as the laughing stock of the Euro 2000 tournament, England's soccer squad was transformed into a world ranked winning machine that was undefeated in all international qualifying matches for four and a half years and only lost four (admitedly pretty crucial) matches during the total stewardship of Sven-Goran Eriksson. His thanks for this was to be ridiculed and driven out by eliments of the British tabloid press and those members of the British public who didn't look past the hype and consider the reality of this quiet and dignified man and his verysignificant achievements and results.
The Sven/Becks years are already looking like a Golden period for English football as recent results look like a repeat of pre-2000 history?
It will be the height of irony if Sven accepts one of the many other national teams invitation to turn their team around in a similar way and takes them on to knock out the England's hopes in future international tournaments?
I wonder if he will take an interest in any of the British clubs who are runoured to want to engage his winning ways after the way he has been treated by some in the UK?
