Spurs Striker Mido Banned From Egypt Team For 6 Months After Tirade Against Coach

Mido has been suspended from Egypt's national team for six months for the spectacular show of petulance he showed after being substituted during Tuesday's 2-1 win over Senegal in the African Cup of Nations semi-final.

Egypt's 2-1 win over Senegal in the semi-final was completely overshadowed when striker Mido, incensed at being substituted in the second-half of the match, and while leaving the pitch, threw an extraordinary tirade of abuse at Egypt head coach Hassan Shehata, and had to be separated from him by fellow team-mates.

He has since been banned from the Egypt squad for the next six months, and sent back to England, but Mido insists that he will not apologise to Egypt coach Hassan Shehata after their bust-up, and believes he has done nothing wrong.

"The thing is I haven't insulted the manager," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I said why, why are you always changing me? He's not that professional that he came to argue with me."

Egypt will face Ivory Coast in Friday's final without the Tottenham Hotspur striker and if they win, they will be the first country to win the African Nations Cup five times.
