Spurs Striker Jermain Defoe Confident Of England Squad Place After Double Against Charlton

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe is very much hoping to secure his place in the England squad for the World Cup Finals. The Spurs striker has started a lot of matches on the bench for Martin Jol’s team, but is now getting consistent starts for the North London side.

“I think the manager knows what I can do,” Defoe told Sky Sports News. “I started off the season great, scoring goals, but then I was out of the team for a bit.”

Defoe has often started on the bench for Spurs, with manager Martin Jol tending to switch between his strike-force of Mido, Robbie Keane and Defoe, generally using two players up front.

But with Mido having been away in Egypt throughout January in the African Cup of Nations with his team, Egypt, who lifted the African Nations trophy, and the departure of Grzegorz Rasiak to Southampton, Martin Jol seems to have settled with Defoe as a starter.

Defoe scored twice against premiership rivals Charlton Athletic recently, and the England striker is eager to capitalise on the chance to get games in, in order to secure a place in the England squad for the World Cup Finals.

“I am back in the team now, I got two goals, and at the minute I feel sharp and good,” said Defoe.

Sven Goran Eriksson is fully aware of the 23-year-old’s abilities, and it would seem that Defoe will be likely to feature in the Swede’s World Cup Plans.

defoe only score irregularly and does not work hard enough for a team; Darren Bent has proved his goal scoring prowess this season and surely is ahead of defoe in the selection process

Defoe has scored regularly in the premier league over a number of seasons, and has experience of playing for Engalnd. Darren Bent has neither of these. Although it would be tempting to take Bent ahead of Crouch.

Defoe is going to lose his place for Keane to play beside Mido,he is not a good scorer like both of them, so he is martin jol's third choice.
while for the english squad defoe comes as a fifth choice after rooney, owen, bent&vassel.
it seems difficult-but not impossible- to find defoe in germany 2006!
