Villareal signed Mexico's international Striker Guillermo Franco in a deal which will find the 29-years-old player in Spain for 3.5 years, from Mexican Club Monterray.

Villarreal's coach Manuel Pellegrini, who is also Chilean, is said to be the main backer of the deal, as the two also worked together in Argentina's San Lorenzo.

Guillermo Franco passed successfully the necessary medical tests and is expected to be announced in an official press release tomorrow.

Club officials refused to disclose the amount they agreed with the player, however some suggest that the deal was worth about $1.8 million. Villarreal signed the player to compensate for Argentine international striker Luciano Figueroa, who is close to agreeing with River Plate.

Franco was one of the leading scorers during the five years he spent with Monterray, scoring 61 goals. Guillermo Franco is the second signing during January's Transfer Window, after signing Josemi Gonzalez from Liverpool FC.
