Spain's Antonio Puerta “Still Critical” Following Heart Attack While Playing For Sevilla Against Getafe In La Liga Opener
Spain international Antonio Puerta, who suffered heart attack while playing for Sevilla in Saturday's La Liga game against Getafe, is still in a critical condition.
The 22-year-old, who plays as left-back and can also operate in an advanced role, collapsed on the pitch after 28 minutes of play at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. He recovered after some treatment but collapsed again in the changing room and was rushed to a local hospital.
Dr Francisco Murillo said in Monday's medical report: "Puerta still needs assisted ventilation and is sedated as a consequence of suffering from prolonged cardiac arrest. The cardiac arrest was caused by repetitive serious ventricular arrhythmias.
"After 36 hours, the patient's prognosis is still critical following the cardiac arrest, which included brain suffering."
