Spain & Liverpool Striker Morientes Joins Valencia
Spain and Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes has joined Valencia for an undisclosed fee.
It had been speculated that the former Real Madrid and Monaco forward had been offered in a swap-deal for Valencia and ex-Italy striker Marco Di Vaio.
Di Vaio, a former Juventus and Italy forward, who has been on loan at Monaco, claimed the Valencia board had approached him about the prospect of signing for Liverpool in a deal which would take Morientes to the Mestalla but he refused, saying he wanted a permanent move to Monaco.
Morientes spent a total of sixteen months at Anfield, but managed just 12 goals in 61 games for Liverpool.
The striker, who was left out of the Spanish La Furia Roja squad for this summer's World Cup after he only played a bit-part in Liverpool's season, and had already been touted for a move away from Anfield this summer.
The striking veteran will now be joining the Spanish giants for an undisclosed fee.
