Spain and Atlético Madrid striker Fernando Torres knows how great a chance the World Cup Finals are to be able to showcase his talents to prospective club managers.

The 22-year-old is being targeted by a host of Premiership clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle who are all hoping to sign him this summer.

Torres, who is captain of Atlético Madrid, is keen on a move from the Primera Liga side, however with a host of not only English, but many of European football's top clubs wanting to sign the player, he is hoping to take his chance to impress this summer before coming to any agreement with a particular club.

“The World Cup is so important to me because I have yet to demonstrate that, even though I haven't played in Europe with Atlético Madrid, I am ready for this level,” said Torres.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is said to be a huge admirer of Torres and may look to pair the striker with Thierry Henry after the Les Bleus star signed a new four-year deal with The Gunners.

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for the Spaniard, but even though the striker has shown interest in a move to Anfield, Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez may not be willing to match the price that Torres could command.

Tottenham may well drop out of the chase after signing Dimitar Berbatov but Manchester United, who are likely to be offloading Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in the close-season, may well put a bid in.

Newcastle have shown interest in another striker previously linked with Liverpool, Dirk Kuyt and the Magpies may opt for the Dutch striker to replace Alan Shearer.

AC Milan and Barcelona are also said to be keen, but indications are that Torres would prefer a move to The Premiership.

“I know the rumours about my future are strong now. I think it is because there is a World Cup coming up when people are always thinking about big transfer.

“I've lived through these rumours a thousand times in the last five years and they won't affect me. I am trying to focus on the World Cup which is my biggest priority right now."

Spain have been drawn alongside Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia in Group H, playing their opening match against the Ukraine in Leipzig on June 14.
