South Korea Football Association Threatens Legal Action Against World Cup Travel Agents

The Association announced today that all ticket sales through the country's Travel Agents are illegal under FIFA regulations. The move follows the availability of World Cup Travel packages which include tickets for South Korea's World Cup Finals Match Fixtures.

The South Korea Football Association's International Affairs Department spokesman Shin Man-Gil said today that "Currently, tickets are available only through lotteries, and those travel agencies can't possibly get them any other way. The fans should be wary of this promotion that they can get tickets from those agencies."

However a spokesman from one of the Travel Agents offering package deals to Germany, including match tickets for the World Cup Finals, said that what they do is absolutely legal, as they have signed contracts through German channels and not through South Korea's Football Association. He also suggested that fans are more likely to obtain tickets through them, rather than entering a lottery.

The Association also said that tickets available through its local channels will be on sale until Sunday. He added that tickets for the World Cup 2006 tournament need to have a passport number attached to them and that outside the World Cup Stadiums security personnel will not allow anyone enter if his details are not corresponding to the records held by FIFA.

All tickets for the world cup will have a microchip which will enable security to check all the relevant information in real-time. The Association is considering its legal options and will consider launching legal action against them.

Some South Korean Travel Agents have announced that they already have sold World Cup Travel packages.
