Australia's "Socceroos" have beaten the Solomon Island's 2-1 today in the second-leg of the Oceania Zone World Cup qualifiers final stage. Having had a first-leg lead of 7-0 the Socceroo's knew that they had already done enough in the first-leg to book a place to play the fifth-placed team in South America, for a place in next summers World Cup finals in Germany.

The 9-1 aggregate score is harsh on the Island team from the Pacific. With Australia scoring in the 17th minute, from a strike by one of the few home based Socceroo's, Archie Thompson from Melbourne Victory, the home-side held on.

With the Australian's going in to the half-time break only 1-0 up, the Solomon Island's managed to earn themselves a penalty early into the second period. Henry Fa’arado Junior, who also plays his club football in Australia with the Melbourne Knights, despatching the penalty to level the scores.

Australia wrapped up the win in the 59th minute with Brett Emerton striking home, and giving the Socceroo's a comfortable 9-1 aggregate win.

Now the Socceroos face a match against the fifth-placed team from the South America qualifying zone, most likely, either Uruguay or Colombia to play for a place in the finals. We will have to wait until the 8th of October, when the final round of matches in South America qualifying zone have taken place, to find out who their next opponents will be.
