Socceroo's and FC Thun's Ljubo Milicevic Sceptical of Possible Transfer to English Premiership Club Fulham FC

On his first training session after a Christmas break in Australia, Socceroos international defender and ex Olyroos captain found out that press reports are linking him to a possible transfer to English Premiership Club Fulham.

The West-London Soccer Club already completed a transfer for New Zealand international midfielder Simon Elliott. Press reports suggest that the Club's Coach Chris Coleman is looking for a central defender and a leftback for reinforcing his team.

Australia's Ahmad Elrich has failed to meet expectations in Craven Cottage and Coleman is looking for alternatives. However, Ljubo Milicevic appeared to be sceptical of the news. He was speaking with Australian daily newspaper "The Sydney Morning Herald".

"I have just got back to the news and will find out more over the next few days. I know a lot of clubs have been watching me in the Champions League but I have had no official personal contact," he said, referring to his appearances with FC Thun.

"There were a lot of clubs watching me playing against Arsenal and the interest is all because of that. Being involved with the national team helps, too. I knew Fulham were keen but I am not sure how far it has progressed."

Milicevic, who was suffering from a series of injuries, did not seem to think that the deal was possible. He will be having problems obtaining a work permit in England and also FC Thun are still in the UEFA Cup and seems unlikely for them to agree to release one of their key players in January's transfer window.

The most possible scenario is that Milicevic will stay in Switzerland and not move to another club until after the 2006 World Cup. Socceroos Coach Guus Hiddink has sent him call-ups for the Australia national football squad during the 2006 World Cup Oceania Qualifiers.
