Blackburn midfielder Vratislav Gresko was recalled to the squad today for Slovakia's World Cup Playoff games against Spain. Gresko recovered from a knee injury which kept him out of the last two World Cup Qualifiers of Slovakia.

Qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany is seen as a strategic target for Slovakia, as it will be the first time the country participates in the World Cup since it achieved independence in 1993. Manager Dusan Galis had to leave midfielders Marek Mintal and Karol Kisel out of the squad because of injury.
