Sir Trevor Brooking is hoping that the decision on the successor to Sven Goran Eriksson as England manager will be made soon.

The identity of the new England boss has been the subject of intense speculation ever since The Football Association revealed Sven Goran Eriksson would be stepping down at the end of this summer's World Cup Finals.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce, former Celtic and Leicester City boss Martin O'Neill, Charlton’s Alan Curbishley and Middlesbrough’ Steve McClaren have all be linked with the role.

Steve McClaren, who has had immense success this season with Middlesbrough and is already part of the England set-up, is currently the favourite to succeed the Swede.

The FA's selection process for the new England head coach has come in for some criticism from some managers claiming the constant speculation is affecting their club jobs.

Brooking, who is on the selection committee as part of his director of football development role at The FA, is confident FA chief executive Brian Barwick will come to a decision soon.

“It's something we have to leave to Brian,” said West Ham legend Brooking.

“It's moving on and hopefully it will be resolved sooner rather than later.”
