Serbia & Manchester United Centre-Back Nemanja Vidic Ruled Out Of 2006/07 Season After Breaking Collarbone

Serbia and Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidić has broken his collarbone during the first-half of United's Premiership clash with Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday, ruling him out for the rest of the 2006/07 season.

The 25-year-old Serbian centre-back was stretchered off the pitch after he came down awkwardly under a challenge with Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn in the 25th minute of the match.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was forced to bring on John O’Shea as a substitute.

United, who have suffered a spate of injuries of late, will consider this a severe blow, with their treble aspirations at stake, and with the added pressure as United travel to Rome for their Champions League quarter-final in midweek without one of their key-players.

Vidic will still be a doubt for Serbia and Montenegro's EURO 2008 Group A qualifying match away to Finland on June 1.
