Barcelona's Javier Saviola confirmed the Panathinaikos bid and the fact that Arsenal contacted his agent, but said that he prefers to stay in Spain's Primera Division, as Villarreal and Zaragoza are among some of the Spanish teams interested.

Saviola said that it was an honour for him that Panathinaikos wants to sign him in an interview with Greek Sports Daily "SportDay". The Argentinian international said that the financial package offered by the Athens team was very good.

However, the player said that although he has yet to decide where he will continue his career, Spanish Clubs have a priority, even if that means that he will be earning less than what he would earn by signing a contract with Panathinaikos.

The player added that it is definitely honouring the fact that Panathinaikos want to sign him as they are a "big team" and that the same applies to all other teams interested.

Javier Saviola is expected to decide on his next move after the end of the World Cup 2006 tournament, where Argentina became from outsiders to the strongest favourites within 90 minutes.
