S American Opening World Cup Qualifiers Pit Colombia V Brazil, Argentina V Chile – FIFA To Decide On CONMEBOL’s Sept 8 Start
South America’s football governing body, CONMEBOL has proposed to FIFA September 8 as the starting date for the qualifying rounds in the region for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
The opening fixtures have pitted Bolivia at Uruguay, Brazil at Colombia, Chile at Argentina, Paraguay at Peru and Venezuela at Ecuador.
Most regions will follow the World Cup qualifying draw which is scheduled for November 23 in Durban, while African qualifying begins on October 13.
South America has four guaranteed berths while the fifth country goes into the play-off with the No 4 nation in North and Central America and the Caribbean.
