The FIFA World Cup champions Brazil have arranged to play Russia in a friendly match in Moscow, as a warm up for the defence of their World Cup title crown in Germany next summer.

The Football Union of Russia (RFS) has confirmed that the friendly fixture will take place in Moscow on the 1st of March. The venue for the match is yet to be decided, but the Lokomotiv stadium in Moscow is the most likely venue for the game.

With the Russia team still without a coach after Yuri Semi resigned as national coach in November, it could see the Russian’s being led by the current Under-21 coach Aleksandr Borodyuk, unless the RFS appoints a successor to Yuri Semi before the encounter.

Russia failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, having finished third in Europe Zone Group 3, behind winners of the group, Portugal, and Slovakia who were knocked out by Spain in the play-offs.

In their history, Russia and Brazil have previously played a total of 12 friendly matches, with Russia winning three, losing seven and with two games ending in a draw. The Russian’s have scored a total of 10 goals against the South Americans, compared to Brazil’s 22.

The two teams have met three times in the World Cup finals, in 1958, 1982 and 1994, and once in the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976.
