Romania Squad For World Cup Qualifying Match Against Finland

Submitted by Scott Harkness on Tue, 04/10/2005 - 16:38.

Romania team coach Victor Piturca has picked three uncapped players for their vital last World Cup group 1 qualifying match against Finland. He has called on CFR Cluj defender Vasile Jula, midfielder Costin Lazar of Sportul Studentesc and Rapid Bucharest goalkeeper Daniel Coman to jolin the squad.

The Romanian skipper, Cristian Chivu has been banned for previous offences, and will miss Saturday's World Cup European Group One qualifier in Finland.

Central defender Sorin Ghionea of Steaua Bucharest is injured, and will be joining Chivu on the sidelines for Romania's last match of the qualifying campaign.

The Netherlands are currently top of Europe Zone Group 1 on 28 points, and two matches yet to play. The Czech Republic are second with 24 points, and Romania third, on 22 points.

Romania can finish second if they win in Finland, and the Czech Republic lose to both the Netherlands and Finland in their last two games.

If the Czech‘s manage to get a draw in their match on Saturday, the goal difference would be far too much for the Romanian’s to pull back, and so they would be out of the competition.
