Real Madrid Defender Jonathan Woodgate Hopes Solid Match Against Arsenal Will Help Earn England Place From Sven
Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate is hoping a that a solid performance against Arsenal in the Champions League tonight can help him win back his place in Sven Goran Erikkson's England team for the World Cup Finals.
Woodgate is finally fully fit after being out of action for almost two years with injury problems and has been on top-form for the Spanish giants in defence this season – even winning a man-of-the-match award last weekend - and sees tonight’s clash between Real Madrid and Arsenal as the perfect opportunity to impress England Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Erikkson will name his squad to face Uruguay on Saturday night, and with his recent form, Woodgate feels he could be in contention.
The former Leeds and Newcastle defender said: “I feel good right now and that’s good news. I'm training hard and working hard so hopefully I can stay fit for the rest of the season.
“I haven't spoken to the England manager but touch wood if I keep playing well then I'll have a chance of getting in the squad.”
