Real President Calderon Confirms David Beckham Will Stay, Chelsea After Brazil's Roberto Carlos, Robben Could Feature In DealSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 05/07/2006 - 16:34.
Real Madrid’s new President Ramon Calderon is very close to confirming the appointment of former Juventus manager Fabio Cappello on a three-year deal at the Bernabeu, with some new players coming in, but one player that will definitely be staying at the Bernabeu is former England captain David Beckham. Calderon, is looking forward to securing former Juventus manager Fabio Capello, who managed Real Madrid for one season in 96/97, as the new manager of Real Madrid, with a list of new three new signings that he hopes will be imminent for the Spanish giants. Calderon has said that he has certain targets from some top Premiership and European clubs, with AC Milan’s Kaka, Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea’s Arjen Robben confirmed targets, with the possibility of signing Holland and Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. "We are trying to bring three (players) in. All three players have a contract and we need to get an agreement with the clubs," said Calderon to Sky Sports News. With the move, there will be some major changes to both the playing and coaching staff at the Bernabeu, but one person who is definitely not going to be leaving is former England captain David Beckham. "He is very, very important for us in every sense. He is a brilliant player, magnificent," said Calderon. "All the supporters here are very, very much with him and he is very important from the commercial area. "I want to have him with us forever, at least the three years we still have with him," continued the Real Madrid president. Beckham, who resigned as England captain after England’s exit from the World Cup Finals at the hands of Portugal, will definitely be one that is staying at the Primera Liga giants. "The players that have not been in the World Championship will be here on Monday, and the other players (that participated in the World Cup) will be here about the 21st July, then I will meet all the players," said Calderon. Calderon also confirmed that there had been an offer on the table from Chelsea for Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos, but said that the final decision would be Capello’s. Capello was the manager who brought Roberto Carlos into the Bernabeu 10-years ago, but it may be that he will want to cash-in on his Brazilian star, possibly as part of a transfer deal with Robben. Speaking about the possible move for Chelsea and Holland winger Arjen Robben, Calderon said that there had already been previous contact between Real Madrid and Arjen Robben regarding a move, and that a deal is still in the pipe-line. "In theory we can get an agreement, that is what they told me. I understand that is correct. "The player (Robben) wants to come here, to Real Madrid." Regarding Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas he said: "He wants apparently to come here. "We have been talking to him previously and of course we now have to get in touch with Arsenal, they have the last-word in this," later saying he saw the likelihood of a move as "70/30". "The third one is Kaka, the Brazilian playing in (AC) Milan. We know that it is going to be difficult because Milan do not want to sell the player, but if the player wants to leave, it gives us more possibilities." When asked about the possible signing of unsettled Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, Calderon said: "I think he’s one of the options, but I am not quite sure, it is the decision of Cappello to have van Nistelrooy here. "We will have to wait until this evening, when Cappello is here, to know exactly what he wants and of course to know if we can pay all that money." in favorites | email this page
