Real Madrid Sweat On David Beckham Injury – In-Form England Midfielder’s Ankle Injury Could Upset Real’s La Liga Title BidSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Thu, 07/06/2007 - 15:38.
Real Madird are sweating on the fitness of star midfielder David Beckham, who picked up an ankle injury in England’s 3-0 win in Estonia in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday. Real, who are level on points with defending champions Barcelona on 72 with two games to play in the Spanish Primera Liga, will take on Real Zaragoza on Saturday at La Romareda stadium. 32-year-old Beckham has been a key player for Fabio Capello’s side ever since the former Three Lions skipper staged his comeback from the banishment following his announcement of the LA Galaxy deal. He has had a hand in majority of the goals scored by the team on his reinstating in the side, with his pin-point crosses and dead-ball situations as the Galacticos inched closer to their first major trophy for four years. Beckham was sensational for England as he engineered the 3-0 win for Steve McClaren’s men in Tallinn, capping a successful return to the competitive international arena. Despite picking up an ankle problem early in the first half, he played a stellar role and made both second half goals for Peter Crouch and Michael Owen, before he was taken off in the 68th minute as a precautionary measure. The former Manchester United ace is said to have strained the internal lateral ligament in his left ankle. “The injury would be monitored over the next 24-48 hours while he was undergoing medical treatment and physiotherapy,” said the Real medical bulletin. Beckham is close to winning his first La Liga winner’s medal ever since he left Old Trafford for Real in 2003. in favorites | email this page
