Former England captain David Beckham served a notice to Three Lions boss Steve McClaren that he is far from being over to be considered for a place in the national team.

31-year-old Beckham was instrumental in Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League match at El Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

And McClaren was quick to admit it is 'a problem I would rather have than not have'.

McClaren told Sky Sports: "It gives me a problem, one of the problems you welcome. He's being professional and performing well for his club."

"Obviously that's a problem I would rather have than not have. It's interesting.

"The reaction from every adversity he's ever gone through in his career, he's always bounced back and been professional and got on with his job.

"It's pleasing to see that a month ago he would never play for Real Madrid again and there he is starring in a game against Bayern Munich and being man of the match."
