David Beckham has waved goodbye to European football, coming off in the 66th minute while playing his last game for Real Madrid as they won the La Liga title in a 3-1 win against Real Mallorca on Sunday night.

At the time Beckham was substituted, Real Madrid were trailing 1-0 to Real Mallorca, after a flowing move from the home team in the 17th minute, with Varela tucking the ball past Igor Casillas in the Real Madrid goal to make it 1-0.

At half-time, Barcelona were currently leading the Primera Liga, as they led 3-0 against relegated Gimnastic, with Puyol, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho scoring for Barça in the first-half - Seville drawing 0-0 at home to Villareal and Real Madrid still losing by one goal to nil.

But Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello decided to take a gamble early in the second-half, substituting Beckham for former Arsenal striker Jose Antonio Reyes who, in the 67th minute, made his presence immediately felt, slotting home a superb equaliser to give Real some belief.

A terrible mistake from the Mallorca keeper, fumbling in a header from Mahamadou Diarra, saw Real Madrid take the lead in the 80th minute with Reyes sealing the win for Real Madrid just minutes later with a superb strike from the substitute.

In the other match, Barcelona extended their lead just five minutes into the second-half, with Lionel Messi sealing a fourth goal for Barça and Zambrotta with a fifth late in the match, but it was to no avail as Real took the title from the jaws of their closest rivals on the head-to-head rule.

Former Manchester United star Beckham will now be plying his trade in the MLS for LA Galaxy, after a sensational season for Real Madrid, with another winners medal for Beckham to add to his trophy cabinet.
