Real Boss Fabio Capello Backs David Beckham For England Recall – Three Lions Boss McClaren Monitors Beckham’s FormSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Fri, 25/05/2007 - 16:11.
Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has come out in support of midfielder David Beckham, who the Italian feels should be playing for England. The 32-year-old former England captain has not played for the Three Lions ever since Steve McClaren has taken the charge from Sven Goran Eriksson after last summer’s World Cup quarter-final exit to Portugal. However, Beckham has shown great form for Real in 2007 and has also proved Capello wrong as the Italian had earlier banished him from his plans following the player’s announcement that he will leave in the summer for LA Galaxy. "I told David the other day that I thought he has never been in such good form either mentally or physically and he agreed with me," Capello told a news conference on Friday. "I can't understand how a player who is playing so well can be left out of any national side." McClaren is set to name the England squad for June 1 friendly against Brazil and the important Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia on June 6, on Saturday. And speculations are rife as to whether he recalls Beckham on his present form. Moreover, midfielder Owen Hargreaves is yet to be fully fit from a knee problem. The former Middlesbrough had last week said: "I've never said the door is closed on David Beckham. I keep my eye on everybody and I said from day one that David's form would be monitored." in favorites | email this page
