PSV Eindhoven’s Hero Against Arsenal – Alex – To Miss; Arouna Koné Doubtful For Champions League Quarters Against Liverpool
PSV Eindhoven’s hero against Arsenal in the last-16 round triumph, central defender Alex, will miss both the legs of Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool next month with an hamstring tear, while forward Arouna Koné is doubtful with knee ligament damage.
24-year-old Alex, who is on loan at Ronald Koeman’s side from Chelsea, scored at both the ends at the Emirates Stadium leg on March 7, but the 2-1 aggregate saw them dumping out Arsene Wenger’s last season’s finalists.
The Brazilian was injured while attempting a pass in the first half of the goalless Eredivisie draw against SC Excelsior on Sunday.
An MRI scan on Monday revealed a hamstring tear that will keep the imposing Brazilian out for at least six weeks.
Meanwhile, Ivory Coast international Koné will be out of action for three-four weeks folloing a robust challenge with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas in their visit to London. He would be racing against time to be fit for the April 3 first leg at Philips Stadion.
