Portugal v Mexico Match Preview: Deco, Costinha and Pauleta Start On Bench, Borgetti Out For El Tri

Portugal face Mexico in their last match in World Cup Group D on Wednesday at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday.

Portugal, who have already qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup Finals, have rested three players that are all one yellow card away from a suspension that would see them miss the second round.

Deco, Costinha and Pauleta are starting on the bench for Portugal after receiving bookings in their 2-0 win over Iran in the opening Group D fixture and if they were to pick up another card, would miss the first knockout match against either Argentina or the Netherlands.

Mexico will be definitely be without their record goalscorer Jared Borgetti. The Bolton Wanderers striker picked up a hamstring injury in Mexico's first World Cup group match against Iran.

Mexico start with Francisco Rodriguez, Luis Perez and Jose Fonseca, for Guillermo Franco, Gerrardo Torrado and Zinha, who all start on the bench.

Portugal have already qualified for the last 16 and need only a draw to finish top of Group D.

Mexico will need a draw to secure a place in the last sixteen, and a win to finish in top position in Group D.

Even a defeat could see the Mexicans go through, as long as Angola do not win and come back from the three goal deficit by which they trail Mexico.
