Portugal face Holland in their first knockout match in Nüremburg on Sunday, with the winner set to face England in the quarter-finals.
Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona’s Deco, and PSG’s Pauleta, who were all rested for their 1-0 win in their final group game against Mexico all return in place of Cardoso Tiago, Simão Sabrosa and Helder Postiga.
Costinha and Nuno Valente also come in for Petit and Caneira.
Oranje coach Marco Van Basten has made four changes to the team that faced Argentina, with Kew Jaliens, Rafael van der Vaart, Tim de Cler and Ruud van Nistelrooy all making way for Joris Mathijsen, Barcelona's Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Mark van Bommel, and Chelsea's Arjen Robben, who all start the match.
Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been left-out in favour of Dirk Kuyt by van Basten after Kuyt impressed against Argentina.
Chelsea winger Arjen Robben is also in the starting line-up after failing to make the starting-eleven against Argentina, while Johnny Heitinga has failed to recover fully from his hamstring injury and starts on the bench.
