Dinis Names Portugal Under-20 World Cup 2007 Squad: SL Benfica's Pedro Correia & Ex-Porto & Clube de Braga Star Bruno Gama NamedSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sun, 01/07/2007 - 18:48.
Portugal Under-20 head coach Carlos Dinis has named his 21-players for the Under-20 World Cup Finals 2007, Canada. After winning consecutive FIFA World Youth Championships titles in 1989 and 1991, Portugal have been inconsistent in the tournament, making no real impression in the finals in Australia in 1993, Qatar in 1995 and Nigeria 1999 and failing to qualify for any other until 2007. There are some up and coming stars in their squad with talented SL Benfica defender Pedro Correia, who has featured 13 times for Portugal, scoring three times in the process. Another player who has made an impression is attacking midfielder Bruno Gama, who started his career with FC Porto and now plays for Sporting Clube de Braga. He is the team captain of the Portuguese Under-20 team and will be in the heart of the Portuguese attack. Gama has made 23 appearances for Portugal, scoring three goals in the process, and will be supporting Rio Ave striker Fabio Coentrao and Tourizense forward Zequinha.
